Major event, major planning
With Halloween upon us tomorrow I have to say how impressed I was with the planning and organization that took place in our street last year – I don’t remember this happening before.
All of the houses in our street received a balloon with a note, saying if we had treats to offer to tie the balloon to our letterboxes. So all those who were willing to participate were clearly identifiable.
When I arrived home from work our balloon looked rather sad and saggy however, fear not, where there is a sugar will, there is a way. Eager eyes were not going to miss a sagging balloon.
The children were all very polite, all dressed up and in large groups of almost school class size. I could see that my supply wasn’t going to last long. But I did stretch it out pretty well!
And of course it’s not safe to send children off knocking on doors on their own, even on Halloween. Lo and behold the parent group was waiting down at the footpath, having a great chat, with glasses of champagne in hand (what forethought!)
Luckily my young adult daughter was home for most of the time and took over the distribution of treats. She somehow made it much more fun for the kids than I did and behind her I could see all these little faces with bright eyes eagerly looking up at her.
By the end of evening I had to resort to a large family size packet of chips for the last child. It was that or a box of cornflakes! By the look on his face you would have thought I’d given him the biggest prize ever.
So a major event in our street, with major planning! I’m pleased to say I’m prepared for this year.
