Rogan au pairs
You may have already noticed that we now have an au pair service on our website.
This is one of a number of exciting new developments for Rogan and I wanted to give you a quick rundown of how an au pair might work in your family.
Au pairs are not the same as nannies. They are like a new family member, a new adult child if you like, who helps around the house and with child care. You need to make them feel welcome, put time into their development and help them settle in to a new country and culture.
Some au pairs have child care experience, however as a rule most would not to be capable of caring for a child or children under 2 years of age. Tasks need to be very specific and time frames agreed, as au pairs arrive here to experience life in Australia both inside and outside of your home.
In return for household tasks and child care, the au pair receives all meals and accommodation, and pocket money. There are other lesser expenses such as ground transport on arrival and departure.
Families need to provide a private bedroom and preferably a private bathroom, however this is not always possible and au pairs often share a bathroom with the children.
Parents need to have the time to spend with au pairs, training them for the tasks they will be required to complete and assisting them to enjoy their stay in whichever wonderful Australian city they find themselves.
Au pairs can be a great solution for families with older children and who are willing and able to fully partake in a cultural exchange.
Keep in mind that it will need give and take from all members of the household to make this relationship work well.
A number of Skype conversations are essential both before and after selecting you au pair so you can get to know each other well.
If you have any questions or think an au pair may suit your family, please call the Rogan office on 03 9670 7686. We will be happy to talk with you re your family’s needs.
